IndiaIT360 : Can you tell us something about yourself? 

Mr. Anjan Deb : Very senior IT professional with 34 years of experience in different industries, including FMCG, Mfg, and Investment Bank. I also spent many years in pure big IT services companies—the last 15 years in the Maritime Industry (known as Marchant Navy), actually Ocean Logistics.

I have been playing the role of CIO for more than 20 years. Four-time consecutive CIO100 award winner from 2013 to 2016. Hall of Fame award winner from CIO100. Two-time EDGE award winner. Worked with multinationals like HUL, Lehman Brothers, ATOS, and iGate(now Capgemini) before coming to the IT world of Marchant Navy.

IndiaIT360 : How is GenAI helping you solve complex business challenges?

Mr. Anjan Deb : In the maritime world, ship maintenance plays a major role and is a major cost factor. GenAI helps the company with Predictive analysis. GenAI processes the data from sensors on a real-time basis in intervals of specified seconds and then analyzes and can predict the failure of equipment, which ultimately leads to proactive maintenance, reduces downtime and avoids costly repairs.

By analyzing historical maintenance data, usage patterns, etc., and combining the market data available in this area, GenAI can manage the life cycle management of maritime assets, ensuring they are maintained and replaced at the optimal times.

GenAI is used in navigation systems, which enhances the system with real-time analytics and can avoid collisions with other vessels or obstacles. GenAi is used to track and analyze emission data, which helps the organization maintain regulatory compliance with IMO and MARPOL conventions.

GenAI is also used in the flowing areas in the maritime industry

• Route Optimization – which helps to reduce fuel cost
• Port Operations – predicting congestion/optimizing docking tool. GenAI can improve port turnaround times
• Crisis Management – real-time decision support during crises like oil spills, piracy attacks, and severe weather events.

  The above usage of GenAI is all happening in the Maritime Industry.

Mr. Anjan Deb : Almost all industries will benefit from GenAI and will be disrupted. As far as my analysis, the following industries will be impacted most

• Healthcare
• Legal systems, Laws, Judgments – huge scope of impact using GenAI
• Financial Industry
• E-commerce
• Port Operation
• FMCG

Even national leaders and policymakers will also be using GenAI in the coming days. Many political decision-making governance systems will use GenAI-based output.

Mr. Anjan Deb : Strategic Decision-making is influenced by GenAI significantly; for example, it creates deeper insight, which is most of the time difficult to generate from human skill, enhances predictability, which is a big enabler for correct decision-making, helps for optimizing processes, and also influences innovation. Organizations can increase huge efficiency in all different areas and can be more agile and competitive.

• Developing new products – virtual prototyping through GenAI and testing
• Planning – what-if scenarios can be analyzed with a number of variables
